Interests
Cosmetic and Restorative Dentistry, including crowns, bridgework, veneers, root treatments, periodontology. Special interest in dental implants.
James qualified with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery Degree at the University of Sheffield in 1996. He became a member of the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners in 2004. In 2010 he a achieved a Postgraduate Certificate in Endodontics at the University of Chester. In 2012 he gained his Master’s Degree in Periodontology at the University of Western Cape, supported by his Thesis, “The Prevalence and Severity of Periodontal Disease in Type 2 Diabetes.” James has been placing and restoring dental implants since 2006 and completed the coveted Diploma in Implant Dentistry; The Royal College of Surgeons, London in 2013.
In 1997 James joined the Royal Army Dental Corp and served as Dental Officer until 2005. In 2005 until 2006, James worked in NHS General Dental Practice in Formby, Merseyside. James then proceeded to work in the Department of Periodontology at the University of Western Cape, South Africa, from 2006-2008, where he studied for his Master’s Degree in Periodontology. This is where James began placing and restoring dental implants. James then moved to Private Dental Practice in St. Helens, where he worked for 6 years.
James is fully committed to continuing his own professional personal development and is a member of several dental societies.
James is very interested in all aspects of restorative and cosmetic dentistry, with particular interest in the surgical placement and restoration of dental implants. James particularly welcomes referrals from colleagues for this type of treatment.
Outside work, James enjoys spending time with his young family, cycling, tennis, skiing in season.
DR LUCY ATKINSON

Lucy qualified from Manchester University in 2001. After graduation, she completed her Vocational Training at a practice in West Lancashire where she continued to work as an Associate for 22 years. Before joining the team at Hyslop Dental and Implant Clinic in 2024, Lucy was an Educational Supervisor for newly qualified dentists and enjoyed this role where she mentored and supported newer members of the team. Lucy has worked in multiple locations across Lancashire and Merseyside providing Emergency and Out of Hours Dental Care.
Lucy is an experienced dentist who loves to provide high quality care for her patients, and she enjoys all aspects of dentistry. Lucy likes to treat all patients, in particular nervous patients and children. She likes to use a calm and reassuring manner to put patients at ease and happy with their care and treatment.
Lucy has recently achieved a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Clinical Practice at Edge Hill University. Lucy has undertaken extensive training and attended many courses over the years so that she can stay current, enhance her skill set and provide comprehensive care for her patients. These courses include Cosmetic Dentistry, Clear Aligners and Facial Aesthetics. Lucy likes to keep up to date with the latest techniques and technology so that patients have a wide range of treatment options available, and she is looking forward to offering this to patients at Hyslop Dental and Implant Clinic .
Outside of work, Lucy loves time with her family and friends, practising yoga, cooking and holidays.
DR CRAIG DIXON

Craig graduated in 2007 from the University of Manchester and joined the practice in 2014. Prior to this he worked in NHS and private practices in Southport and Ormskirk. Craig enjoys restorative and cosmetic dentistry and has a keen interest in short term orthodontics, he is also a member of the the Britsh Dental Associaton. Craig plans to continue his professional development and study a masters in restorative dentistry.
Outside of work Craig likes spending time with his young family and enjoys playing football and golf!
CHARLOTTE BOND

Charlotte graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2016 as a dental hygiene therapist. Previous to this she worked as a dental nurse for 4 years in both specialist and general practice. Charlotte enjoys working with patients to help them maintain good oral health and hygiene and can also offer bespoke periodontal treatment for patients suffering with gum related issues. Charlotte has a particular interest in helping patients get the most out of their smile through various stain removal treatments and advising them on the best home care regimes to suit their needs. Here at the practice Charlotte also sees patients during and after dental implant treatments. This allow patients to care for their investment in the best possible way through regular appointments.
She is available to provide a wide range of treatments including restorative (fillings) treatments for both adults and children on the NHS, when referred by a dentist at this practice. She is passionate about disease prevention and aims to offer advice to her patients to help them to improve their overall dental health. Charlotte enjoys keeping up to date and trying to expand her knowledge to ensure she is able to offer her patients the most effective treatment possible. She is experienced in working with anxious children and adults and strives to make her patients feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible.
Charlotte could be described as a crazy cat lady due to her love of all things feline. She is also a keen skier and every year we wait in hope that she returns unbroken from her annual ski trip.
DR RHYS WARD

Dr Rhys Ward graduated with BDS from the University of Sheffield in 2017, being awarded the Glaxo Smith-Kline Dental Prize for his outstanding work in Oral Pathology. Rhys has then proceeded to invest significant time and effort into his development, attaining the prestigious Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgeons and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 2019.
The first steps in Rhys’ career have been spent gaining a vast array of experience and tutelage under some of the UKs leading clinicians. This has seen him provide specialist level care in the Restorative Department of the Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth and the Restorative and Oral Surgery Departments of the prestigious Edinburgh Dental Institute.
Rhys has a passion for teaching and has been a Clinical Lecturer and Supervisor for Undergraduate Hygiene and Therapy Students in Edinburgh and was a founding member of the QA Dental Study Club, which regularly hosts seminars for dentists across the Hampshire area. He has also presented work at national conferences and is currently hoping to be published by a national journal.
Rhys is an experienced Invisalign provider and has a particular interest in the provision of minimally invasive, aesthetic dentistry and is currently enrolled on a Diploma in Restorative Aesthetic Dentistry.
When not at work, Rhys can be found either playing rugby, cycling or at the gym. He is also a keen traveller and is hoping to return to Cambodia after the pandemic where he has previously volunteered to provide dental care in some of the poorest areas of the country.
ALEX GILMORE

Aris graduated from Ovidius University in 2001. After working some years in Greece in a private practice he decided to move to England in 2009 to pursue a postgraduate degree. Until 2012 he worked at a mixed NHS and private clinic in Essex. He was then accepted in Manchester University for a Master Degree in Endodontics. As soon as Aris graduated from his MSc he embarked on a journey to set up a referral network for endodontic treatment, working across multiple practices within the northwest of Engalnd. He is also sharing his knowledge at Manchester University Dental Hospital as a Clinical Fellow in the postgraduate programme of Endodontics. Aris says “I do what I enjoy, root canal treatments and everything related to them.”
In his spare time, he enjoys cooking and travelling the world!
DR ESTHER HITCHINGS

Esther qualified from Cardiff university in 2013 and after working in South Wales for two years, moved to Southport. You might think she’s familiar as she has actually worked in the practice before from 2015 to 2018 and then returned to us in 2022! In between she has worked at several other practices across Lancashire and Merseyside.
After working in a hospital setting doing restorative dentistry and oral surgery she has worked in general practice for nearly 10 years and enjoys the variety that brings.
Esther is committed to further professional development and gained Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 2017. She also completed a six month long restorative dentistry course in 2018.
Outside dentistry she enjoys climbing mountains and spending time with her husband and baby daughter.
